George steffen wonders “if Kenneth Young knew the consequences at the time,” because he believes that “at that age they really don’t.” Randy otto (child psychologist) testifies that adolescents are different from adults in terms of “their susceptibility to persuasion and their ability to be led by others,” as well as their ability to understand others’ perspectives. What has your experience been? Do you agree or disagree with Randy Otto's statement about teenagers?

The statement made by Randy Otto could be interpreted either way. On one side, i believe that teenagers are fully aware of thier actions and the consequences making them liable for themselves. However, under stressful situations like Kenneth Young's a teen can easily be persuaded to do reckless things because they feel they have no other choice.

Personally, in my opinion teens in general are mentally not as stable until their 20s. They are either more prone to peer pressure or the pressure to listen to an adult all the time giving them the very difficult decision to either commit a crime out of fear or for surval. Teens are not as developed in the brain versus an adult.

It could go either way because teens are very susceptible to persuasion but others are more developed mentally because of their family and how they grew up that they know right from wrong at an earlier age. On the other hand, teens in general are more vulnerable to persuasion when someone threatens their family.

Kenneth knew what he was doing , but when your family is in danger anyone would do anything to keep .

i believe that at the age kenneth young committed his crimes he was aware of the consequences but didn't have any option but to take action in the crimes he committed due to fact that his moms life was threatened and later on had his own life threatened

I agree with the statement made by randy otto because he was just a scared kid that was forced into doing something he did not want to but had to because if he didnt him and his mother would be killed by the drug dealer.

I'm in between disagree and agree because at the ages of 14 and up yes teenagers know what there doing. But in kenneth youngs situation,he was basically forced to do the things he was committed for in order to save his loved one.

In my experience I feel like I dont't get influenced easily. I agree and disagree with Randy otto because we should know right from wrong but in Kenneths case he was threatened from an adult that manipulated him to do the robberies.

When kenneth young got arrested at 14 he didnt know all the consequences but the judge dont care but he didnt have a choice in the action in crime because his mother was being threathed so he had to do what he had to do for his mother

I believe that teenagers from the ages 14 and up know what they're doing, but in Kenneth's case he was forced by his mother's drug dealer to commit the crimes he did. He was threatened by Mr.Bethea that if he didnt do it he was going to kill him.

I'm pretty sure Kenneth is aware of the consequences but, he was threatened to do it.

Kenneth was under pressure and was struggling. I'm pretty sure that he wasnt aware of the consequences but at the time, he got what he needed.

Kenneth Young was threatened to do those robberies. It would have never happened if not for the mom paying back her dealer.

I believe that Kenneth Young didn't think about the consequences at the moment because his families lives were at risk.
