Kenneth Young’s original sentence (four consecutive life sentences) is actually longer than the sentence received by Jacques Bethea (one life sentence), who was an adult at the time of the crimes. Former public defender Patricia Moore even implies that Young would have been offered a plea deal (and much lighter sentence) if he had been tried in a different county. is it possible for a justice system to be effective when outcomes differ so dramatically county by county? What changes would you recommend that would make sentencing more fair and equitable?

yes, because Kenneth was tried in the state Florida , if Kenneth was picked up in California he would only be serving a few years . the judge in Florida did not care about the fact that Kenneth did anything to prove he has matured and changed well he was in prison .

Yes because the state of Florida is racist. If he was picked up as a juvinile in California they would've gave him a lighter sentence. I recommend they give him a shorter sentence because the reason he commited the crime.

Yes because the state of florida was very racist , if he was in juvinile in california i'm pretty sure he would already be out of jail , they should give him shorter time because he didn't take anyone's life

I think the justice isn't effective because it isn't fair that counties have different jurisdictions. I would recommend that the adult(Bethea) has more time in prison than the minor(Kenneth).

I believe going to another council would help him because they would see things a different way and be more understanding to know he was just a young kid forced into doing a crime to save his mom.

If Kenneth was caught in a different county then he wouldn't have been given life sentences he would have been given about 5-10 years.

Yes, because in other states they would trial a juvenile as an adult, but in the State of California Kenneth Young would be tried as a juvenile with a bail and would have to serve a shorter time that being tried in Florida.

Yes, the judge in Florida was a RACIST SOCIOPATH who didnt care that Kenneth had changed. honestly i wouldnt even say that he changed because he was the VICTIM in the situation. if he were tried in California he would've gotten a few years and probably would've even gotten out early because he wasn't misbehaving while he was in prison.

yes because in kenneths trial they didnt get to hear both sides of the story because bethea and kenneth had two different trials so if they would have went to a different council together and heard the truth behind the story on why kenneth was an accomplice he wouldve got a smaller penalty

If Kenneth was picked up in a different county he would have gotten less time and Bethea would have gotten the 4 life sentences.

I believed that if Kenneth was being held in a different county he would get a less sentencing and would probably be released, during his re-sentencing.

It would depend on the state since every state takes and follows different orders and not have the same type of rules. (ex:Texas)
